Shirodhara

all dosha

Shirodhara is a luxuriant way to achieve calmness and rejuvenation. It is a meditative and relaxing massage in which a soothing stream of warm oil/milk is poured over the forehead. It calms the central nervous system and integrates the mind and body.

The term Shirodhara is derived from a couple of Sanskrit words: 'shiro' means head and 'dhara' means flow. This flow over the forehead and through the hair, creating a heavenly sensation and nourishing your scalp and hair.

Pizhichil - Oil Bath

Vata and healthy Pitta & Kapha

We begin with bathing those tired feet in warm water.

Pizhichil is performed by using a cotton piece of cloth dipped in lukewarm herbal oil and squeezing it over the body in such a way that the oil is dripped through the thumb in a single uninterrupted flow while gently massaging the oil into the skin. It tones and rejuvenates the skin and helps to slow the ageing process. This technique also helps to relieve muscle pain.

After the massage, proceed to having a shower. We recommend using  chickpea powder in place of soap or shower gel as it cuts through the dirt and the ‘excess’ oil on the skin. Therefore, the goodness of the oil will continue to penetrate through your skin.

Udavartana

Dry: Kapha   Wet: Vata

Udavartana starts with a soothing foot bath in warm water.

It is the Ayurveda body scrub. The whole body is massaged (scrubbed) with herbal powders prepared with various herbs. The powdered herbs are mildly heated and massaged using upward strokes. This powerful Ayurvedic exfoliating massage conditions the skin providing a glow and making the skin soft. It stimulates the hair follicles and releases stagnant lymphatic toxins out of the body. Udavartana is a refreshing massage that helps with clearing and toning the skin. It is performed both dry and wet.

After the massage, proceed to having a shower. We recommend using  chickpea powder in place of soap or shower gel as it cuts through the dirt and the ‘excess’ oil on the skin. Therefore, the goodness of the oil will continue to penetrate through your skin.

Navara Kizhi

all dosha

Soak those tired feet in warm water first and then we start your Navara Kizhi massage.

Kizhi is the name for little pouches or bundles of  red rice.  These rice pouches together with milk are used to massage your body.

Navara is a native variety of red rice that has medicinal properties. It is a unique procedure by which the whole body is made to perspire. A generous amount of oil is applied to the whole body and then the Navara rice pouches are used to massage. This technique is highly rejuvenating, nourishing and prepares the individual to bear the stresses of modern lifestyles. It enhances the appearance of skin and leaving it soft and glowing.

After the massage, proceed to having a shower. We recommend using  chickpea powder in place of soap or shower gel as it cuts through the dirt and the ‘excess’ oil on the skin. Therefore, the goodness of the oil will continue to penetrate through your skin.

Vasti

Vata

Cleanse your feet in warm water that soothes away the tiredness.

This is a special massage where a small well is created over certain parts of your body. Vasti involves the retention of warm oil for a specific amount of time over different areas of the body. A donut that is made out of wheat flour is used in this technique. This is profoundly penetrating for releasing pain, stiffness and muscle tension.

At Serene A’veda, we look at 3 areas to perform Vasti:

  • Kadi vasti – lower back

  • Greeva vast –upper back

  • Janu vasti –knees
