An Ancient Knowledge

Ayurveda is the ancient Indian medicine system that was originated by Sages in India. It has been practiced in India for more than 5000 years and is now rapidly gaining popularity in the West. Often called the “Mother of all healing”, Ayurveda stems from the ancient Vedic culture and was taught for many thousands of years in an oral tradition by accomplished masters to their disciples.

In Sanskrit, an ancient language in India, describes Ayurveda as ‘science or knowledge of life’. The name Ayurveda is derived from 2 words: Ayu meaning “life” and Veda meaning “science” or “knowledge”. Therefore, Ayurveda is “the science or knowledge of life.”

According to Ayurveda, our bodies are controlled by three bio-energetic forces (dosha) that are made of a combination of five elements; space, air, fire, water and earth. The doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha work together to maintain regular body functions and when in balance they maintain life. However, when one or more doshas are out of balance due to wrong diet and lifestyle choices, it gives rise to various health conditions.

hence, The Difference

Ayurveda says that when there is minimal stress and the flow of energy within a person is balanced, the body’s natural defense systems is strong and can more easily defend against disease. So, one of the main purposes of Ayurveda is preventing the diseases from appearing in our body in the first place. Ayurveda aims to do this by balancing the three doshas to achieve optimum health and well-being. It uses completely natural ingredients for healing. E.g. plants, roots, flowers leave, seeds etc. Therefore, it is considered as non-invasive, contains no toxins that results in minimal side-effects.
